For the third straight year, the KHS Music Department are the IHSA Music Sweepstakes State Champions!
The sweepstakes add up scores from Solo/Ensemble Contests and Organization Contest to determine the winner. Sycamore and Ottawa followed the Boilers in 2nd and 3rd place respectively.
The KHS band and choir are directed by Brittany Krohn, Katie Bartok, and Alex Binek.
Binek expressed pride in his students and appreciation for the many hands that made the championship possible. “If you told me 10 years ago that our music department would win three Music Sweepstakes State Championships in a row, I would have gotten a good laugh. I am so incredibly proud of these students, how hard they have worked, and what they have accomplished. The best thing about the Music Sweepstakes competition is that it takes the entire department. One or two star players can’t carry you to victory; there are maximums and limits in place. All 100 students had to work and fight for every single point on the way to 930. Thank you to our admin and community members for years of support and for really going out of their way to make this one feel special. On Ever On!”
With a three-peat in hand, the music department wraps up the school with a Jazz cafe performance this week and their season-wrapping concerts in May.
