Glimpse of the Future

The 2025 football season was always going to be an uphill climb for the Kewanee Boilermakers. A small group of seniors brought passion and leadership to the field, but the roster was young, very young, and then the injuries came.

The record books will show a winless season, but the true story of a team and a season can never be told in numbers alone. Scattered throughout the season were flashes of what might be coming, and in the season finale those flashes turned into a bonafide spotlight, shining on the future of Boilermaker football.

Coach's Recap - Coach Powell

The 2025 Riveter (Freshman/Sophomore) football season was one of triumphs and obstacles, but this young crew never gave up. Picking up our first win in week 8 was not how we envisioned the season going, but it was phenomenal how these guys never gave up, and brought the energy to practice every day. The “never quit” attitude showed us all how bright the future is for Kewanee Football.

You can look at the numbers and statistics from our field production, but you simply cannot measure the effort and heart of many of our players. Ultimately, that is the goal of JV football. You want to find guys who love the game, and want to improve with every practice. We have many of those types of young men on the team, which is the boat we will row going into 2026. That was my goal coming into this season, was to develop that mentality, while also teaching the skills needed to play varsity football when called upon. I feel as if we hit a couple of those benchmarks, but there is always room for improvement.

You learn more from losing than you do winning, and that is something we have talked about as a team these past few weeks. It shows you who you really are, as a player and as a coach. This is my first year as a head coach, and with a freshmen-heavy corps, we learned together.

There is plenty of work to be done, and a lot of room for improvement, but that is what this process is all about. If these guys love the process, we’ll make strides this off season. I am so proud to be the Riveter Head Coach. The hard hats will be put on this winter and spring.
