Season in Review

The Kewanee Boys and Girls Golf Teams wrapped up an exciting season highlighted by steady improvement, strong team spirit, and a trip to the sectional tournament under first-year Head Coach VanDeWostine and Assistant Coach Lindstrom.

In their first year leading the program, the coaching duo emphasized building consistency, course management, and confidence on the course. Their focus on fundamentals and mental preparation helped several players record personal-best rounds throughout the season.

A major highlight came when freshman Lincoln Throneburg earned a spot in the Sectional Tournament, a remarkable accomplishment that reflected both his hard work and the program’s overall progress. Lincoln’s play throughout the year demonstrated the importance of course management and confidence in one’s abilities.

“Our goal this year was to create a foundation — to help our players believe in themselves and enjoy competing,” said Coach VanDeWostine. “Seeing one of our golfers qualify for sectionals in our first year was a proud moment for the entire team.”

The Boilermakers also celebrated strong performances from Owen Laue and Reid Nichols, who each contributed key rounds during conference play. Owen, a graduating senior, finished his Kewanee golf career on a high note, while Reid will return next season for his third year. Behind him is a promising group of dedicated freshmen, including James McGarvey, Easton Blake, and Lincoln Throneburg.

As the season came to a close, the coaches expressed excitement for the future. “This group showed great character and work ethic all season,” said Coach VanDeWostine. “We’re excited to build on this momentum heading into next year.”

With a young roster, renewed energy, and a sectional qualifier to build upon, the future looks bright for the Boilermaker golf program.
